Helen Keller
By: Christian R.
I read the book “Helen Keller the World in Her Heart”. I like Helen.
She had disabilities just like me.
She had a teacher come to her house, just like me, too.
She lived with her Daddy and Mommy. I live with my Mommy, Daddy, sisters
Yaritza and Marianna, brothers Trinidad and Macho, and three dogs, a cat, and
two huge fish tanks filled with fish.
Mama and Tio come to visit me almost every day.
Martha, her friend and Viney, the cook, came to Helen’s house every
day.
In the beginning, Helen felt sad because when she was a baby,
she got sick and went blind and deaf.
I have trouble seeing and hearing, too. Belle, her dog, stayed by her side. My dog Shadow looks like Belle and
stays in my room a lot. Helen was
frustrated and angry, so she would have fits. I am angry today because I have
mosquito bites! Usually, I am
happy. Helen throws chairs,
pillows, books, pictures, and even a lamp during her tantrums.
Yaritza, Trinidad, Marianna, and Macho throw tantrums too.
Helen’s Mom and
Dad were worried. They got a
teacher to come to stay with them to help Helen learn.
Annie Sullivan taught Helen how to read sign language in her hand. I use some sign, too. When
Helen realized everything had a name and she could communicate. Her tantrums
stopped. When I was young, I threw
tantrums, too, but I don’t anymore.
I got older.
Helen Keller and I are a lot alike.
We both have disabilities.
We are different, because she got to run around and I have to stay in my
bed. It is OK that I have to stay
in my bed. I am a happy boy. I want to listen to music now.
